Program Abstract: ICD-10 readiness for hospital IT leaders: Lessons learned from the trenches

October 1, 2013 is fast approaching. That’s when Medicare will require healthcare providers to start using a complex new coding system – without a grace period. The magnitude of the ICD-10 conversion will require every precious moment to prepare.

This sweeping conversion will impact nearly every nook and cranny of the healthcare organization – from financial transactions and clinical analytics to quality reporting and the revenue cycle. Getting up to speed won’t come cheaply. Some experts put the cost of ICD-10 implementation at $1 million–$5 million, with the industry’s total cost exceeding $13 billion. Organizations must work with vendors, payers, and their internal experts to minimize implementation costs and protect reimbursement revenue. And while the industry at large is bracing for significant revenue losses, many organizations have yet to prepare.

This unique breakfast panel discussion of healthcare IT leaders will examine the steps that organizations must take now in order to ensure a smooth—and even profitable—transition.

The discussion will focus on proven ways to:

  • assess payer and vendor readiness and choose the best platforms and technologies for your organization
  • use existing data to conduct internal pilot programs and readiness assessments
  • create a documentation gap analysis and financial impact assessment
  • structure ICD-10 implementation teams for maximum success
  • create profitable partnerships with payers
  • And more
